An English Guide to the
Peace Memorial Park
Until the Atomic bomb was dropped, the area now incorporating the Peace Memorial Park was a busy downtown hub of Hiroshima. On August 6th, 1945, the city of Hiroshima was completely destroyed by a single atomic bomb, the
first ever used on humankind. Most of the people in this area died instantly, as it was very close to ground zero, which is also sometimes referred to as the “ hypocenter”. After the war, the Peace Memorial Park was
constructed in memory of the A-bomb victims and to express our sincere desire for lasting peace in the world.
There are a lot of monuments in this park, we’re going to guide you around some of them.
